“Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: ‘Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?’” – Job 38:1-2 (NIV)
One of the hardest parts of faith is learning to live with unanswered questions. We want explanations, timelines, and guarantees. We want God to tell us why. However, more often than not, He offers us something better – His presence.
After losing almost everything, Job finally heard God speak. Interestingly, God did not begin with an explanation. He spoke from the storm and reminded Job that He alone governs creation, sets the boundaries of the sea, and holds the universe together (Job 38:1-11).
I find that both humbling and comforting.
The storm was a powerful display of God’s majesty, but the real message was not in the storm itself. It was this: I am God, and you are not. That’s not meant to discourage us — it’s meant to free us. If God is wise enough to sustain the world, He is certainly wise enough to carry us through seasons we do not understand.
I’ve walked through moments when nothing made sense, and I’ve realised that trust doesn’t require complete understanding. In fact, some of the deepest growth in my faith has come when I had no answers at all. I had to decide whether God was still good and still worthy of my trust.
That’s what Job teaches me. Faith isn’t built on having every question resolved. It’s built on knowing the character of the One who holds all the answers.
Today, if you’re waiting for clarity that hasn’t come, remember this: God’s silence is not His absence, and His Sovereignty is not diminished by your uncertainty. He is still at work, even when you can’t see what He’s doing.
Don’t wait for God to explain everything before you choose to trust Him.
Prayer
Lord, when my understanding falls short, anchor me in Your wisdom. Help me trust Your character more than my circumstances, and help me rest in the knowledge that You are always in control, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
